Signs your computer is overheating
- Fans running constantly, even when you're not doing anything
- Laptop or desktop case hot to the touch
- Performance suddenly terrible
- Computer shutting itself down without warning
- Programs crashing in heavy use (games, video editing, big spreadsheets)
- Burning smell (call us now)
The two main causes
- Dust in the fans and heatsinks. A 3-year-old laptop has enough lint inside to clog 60% of its airflow. The fan runs faster to compensate, which is why it's loud.
- Old thermal paste. The compound between the CPU and the heatsink dries out after 3-5 years. Heat can't transfer properly. CPU runs hot. Computer throttles to compensate. Everything slows down.
What we do
- Open the laptop or desktop properly (different process per brand/model)
- Clean fans, heatsinks, vents, intakes
- Remove old thermal paste, apply fresh high-quality paste
- Test temperatures before and after
- Reassemble, return to you running 15-25°C cooler under load
What it costs
- Laptop cleaning + re-paste: $129 flat
- Desktop cleaning + re-paste: $129 flat
- Gaming desktop or workstation full service: $199 flat
This service genuinely extends a computer's life by years. We recommend it every 2-3 years for any laptop, every 4-5 years for desktops, more often if you have pets.
