The most common causes
- Too many startup programs — every install adds itself to startup. After a few years there are 40+ programs loading when you turn the computer on.
- Hard drive is full — Windows and macOS both slow down dramatically when the drive is over 90% full.
- Old hard drive vs SSD — if your computer still has a spinning hard drive, that's probably 80% of the slowness. SSDs are 10x faster.
- Malware — adware and cryptominers eat CPU. Antivirus often misses them.
- Outdated OS / drivers — Windows that hasn't been updated in 3 years runs worse than one that's current.
- Background bloat — Adobe, Steam, Spotify, OneDrive, iCloud, Dropbox all run in the background. On weak laptops they add up.
What our fix actually does
- Audit and clean up startup programs
- Full disk cleanup, including hidden caches
- Anti-malware sweep with three different scanners
- Update OS, drivers, and critical software
- Browser cleanup (extensions, history, malicious add-ons)
- Test for failing drive or RAM
- Re-paste CPU thermal compound if overheating
- Recommend SSD upgrade if it's still on a hard drive
What it costs
Most slow-computer fixes are the $129 flat-rate Standard tier. Remote, usually under an hour. If we find hardware that's failing (drive, RAM, fan), we tell you upfront before fixing.
Try first — for free
- Restart the computer. (Yes, really. Fixes a surprising number.)
- In Windows: Task Manager → Startup tab → disable anything you don't recognize.
- In macOS: System Settings → General → Login Items → remove unused.
